Saira Banu recalls celebrating Eid with Dilip Kumar: "Eid in our home was always a gathering of souls"

On the joyous occasion of Eid, veteran actress Saira Banu took to social media to share a deeply personal reflection on the festive celebrations she once shared with her late husband, the legendary Dilip Kumar. Through a beautifully penned note, she reminisced about how Eid in their home was more than just a festival; it was a celebration of love, togetherness, and the true spirit of humanity.
"When I was young and the sacred month of Ramzan would arrive, our home would glow not merely with flickers of light, but with sheer devotion," she wrote, recalling the peaceful atmosphere of fasting and prayer. However, after her marriage to Dilip Kumar, Eid took on a new meaning. "Our home, that belonged merely to us, became a place where love, goodwill, and bonds lived."
She painted a vivid picture of their Eid mornings, with flowers arriving from well-wishers and musicians gathering outside their Pali Hill residence. "Just as the first light of dawn stretched across the sky, a band of musicians would assemble at our doorstep, the melody of their drums and bugles would hardly be ignored by anyone in Pali Hill."
For Dilip Kumar, Eid was about embracing people with open arms. "For Sahib, there was no greater joy than in the company of kind souls, no richer wealth than the love he could extend and receive. He held a belief that a man’s worth lay not in his achievements but in the hearts he touched. And he did so, effortlessly."
His deep empathy, she shared, had the power to dissolve differences and bring people together. "More than anything, Sahib believed in humanity. As it is something tangible, something to be lived and perceived in the smallest of gestures."
For Saira Banu, those Eids remain unforgettable. "And so, Eid in our home was always a gathering of souls, a celebration of unity, a moment in time where the world seemed, for a brief and wondrous while, to be as it ought to be." Her tribute serves as a reminder that Eid is not just about celebration, but about the love we share, the kindness we extend, and the bonds that make life truly meaningful.
