Connery is known globally as the first James Bond, but the actor's second career defining moment came when he starred as Irish cop Jimmy Malone in the 1987 movie, which earned him his first and only Oscar trophy. The film was an adpatation of an autobiographical memoir by Eliot Ness co-written with Oscar Fraley. It was published in 1957.
