FIFA World Cup 2018: When it’s all in the cards

Modern football can never be imagined without the red card. The practice of cautioning and sending off players who breach the laws of the game has been existent since the late 19th century but it was only at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico that coloured cards — yellow for caution and red for dismissal — were introduced into the game.
